WHNT Coverage Of SpeakLife Event For Girls

Several Huntsville teenage girls were invited to a weekend camp that promotes positivity for the age group.

The Richard Showers Center was home to the teen girl camp hosted by "Speak Life: I am Greatness."

Thursday was the first day of the camp. Girls heard from a youth ministry and the Madison County Health Department about a variety of topics that affect teen girls.

"It's awesome. I hear a lot of people say, 'I wish more things like this would happen in the community,'"

said Dominique Dillard, with Speak Life. "We are just taking the opportunity to impact girls in the Tennessee Valley. We're talking about individuality, we're talking about peer pressure, STDs and the whole nine to hopefully reframe their thinking about going forward into the school year." The camp ran until Saturday, July 12. Local teen girls were invited to join the free opportunity to learn and play with their peers.
